Dining With A View

By Ilala Lodge on November 30, 2015

Competition among restaurants in Victoria Falls is increasingly intense and various factors can influence a customer’s selection. A restaurant’s setting, whether it is on the river’s edge, within a lush rain forest, or overlooking a gaping gorge, is generally the most important factor when choosing a dining destination. To aid you in your decision, we present three Victoria Falls restaurants that feature some of the most picturesque views around.

The Lookout Café

Situated 120m above the tempestuous rapids of the mighty Zambezi River, the Lookout Café boasts some of the most spectacular views in Victoria Falls. Situated downriver from the Falls themselves, this eatery overlooks a massive chasm of the Batoka Gorge and the historic Victoria Falls Bridge.

Whilst gazing upon this breathtaking sight, choose from a vast range of refreshing beverages and light meals from a seasonal menu. Most notable is their innovative range of cocktails, several of which are named after the Zambezi River rapids. How can you resist trying drinks with names like 3rd Ugly Sister, Stairway to Heaven, Morning Glory, and Devil’s Toilet Bowl?

This Victoria Falls restaurant is located at the current Wild Horizon’s high-wire facility, where activities such as the Flying Fox, Gorge Swing, and Vic Falls Canopy Tour are based. As such, this is the perfect spot to combine a bite to eat with an adrenalin-pumping high-wire adventure.

Another incredible experience at the Lookout Café is the full moon dinner experience, which combines views of the Victoria Falls Bridge illuminated by the gentle light of the full moon, and a delectable meal.

Ra-Ikane

For a different, but no less spectacular, dining experience, book your spot onboard one of Ilala Lodge’s luxury cruise boats, Ra-Ikane or Ra-Ikane II.

Designed to evoke the graceful ambiance of a bygone era, the 5-Star Ra-Ikane offers an exclusive position from which to explore the Zambezi River.

Ra-Ikane II

The entire cruise is about two hours in duration, and can been booked for breakfast, lunch, or sunset cruises. The most popular slot by far is the sunset cruise, a relaxing and yet fulfilling way to end another brilliant day in Africa. The vibrant colours of the sunset over the river is truly an unforgettable sight to behold. A vast array of delicious snacks is served throughout the duration of the cruise, and guests are free to choose from a diverse selection of thirst-quenching alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Because of their unique design, these boats are able to offer some of the best game viewing on the Zambezi River. Their monohull configuration allows them to position passengers closer to the water and banks. These boats can also travel further up the Zambezi River, providing rich wildlife viewing along the water’s edge.
