In this case however, this description doesn’t quite tell the full story. Designed by Gary Player, Elephant Hills 18-hole golf course is described by many as one of the most beautiful in the world. Located just 3km from Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe, Elephant Hills features breath-taking views from its hilltop vantage point, lush manicured fairways, and a dramatic soundtrack made up of the distant rumbling of the Victoria Falls themselves.
The fairways and greens are planted with especially hardy imported grasses nurtured by a state of the art irrigation system to ensure that they maintain their verdant appearance year round.
Apart from the scenic attractions, Elephant Hills Golf Course features some unusual hazards during your game, such as the odd elephant, and regular visitors such as antelope and warthog. So make sure you pack your camera into your golf bag.
The course itself is no walk in the park – at the time of its opening in 1974, it was rated as one of the world’s toughest. Right from the outset, you can expect to be tested, with water hazards laid out to test your skill at half of the holes. Holes number 13, 14 and 15 gang up on the unsuspecting player with narrow fairways protected by trees and water, requiring a great deal of accuracy to safely navigate this terrible trio.
Although Elephant Hills Golf Course is just one of Victoria Falls’ attractions, it is also one of the most popular. Not just amongst golfers but also those wanting to enjoy a sumptuous meal at one of the onsite restaurants, a cocktail at the pool bar or a relaxing treatment at the onsite spa.
