Set right next to the majestic Victoria Falls, the Ilala Lodge Boutique Hotel is in the perfect position for you you to make the most of your holiday. It is near to all the main activities in the area, so you won’t have to spend a lot of time travelling from place to place.
Life in Victoria Falls can be as activity-packed or as laid-back as you like, with a wealth of activities to choose from. If you feel like taking in some culture, why not while away an afternoon in the Larry Norton Art Gallery, not far from Ilala Lodge? This exhibition of Norton’s award-winning wildlife art is a permanent fixture of the Victoria Falls Hotel.
A selection of Larry Norton’s fine art print editions, and his original works (in water colour, charcoal, oils and pencil), are on display and available for sale. If you haven’t seen any of Norton’s work yet, prepare to be impressed – his large painting of David Livingstone looking over the Falls on first discovering this magical part of the world (a recreation of events, of course!) has an epic, awe-inspiring quality, while remaining beautifully intricate.
The artist was born and grew up in north-east Zimbabwe, on a game farm. He was very young when he started drawing, and forged a brilliant career in art, exhibiting all around the world and winning a number of international awards.
Norton’s main subject matter is wildlife, but he also specialises in landscapes and people of the continent. While he is often travelling around Africa to gather material and inspiration for his art, he is based in Victoria Falls, where he has a home studio. Larry has been involved in a great amount of fundraising for the community, as well as wildlife and the environment and we are blessed to have him a member of our small community.
After browsing the world-renowned gallery, you can look forward to a magnificent meal back at Ilala Lodge, and plan another magical day in Victoria Falls.
