There is a certain mystic allure to steam trains. Somehow, they are a reminiscent of historical days of opulent fun and great adventure.
Guests who step off the platform at Victoria Falls and onto the No 512 train will be whisked off not only across one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world, but also straight into another era.
There are four pre-arranged steam train journeys to choose from, each one offering an experience better than you could dream of in one of the last steam trains of its kind left in the world, the 1953 14A Garret.
A number of trips across the historic Victoria Falls Bridge area are available, with champagne, breath-taking views of the ‘Smoke That Thunders’ and the African setting sun.
The African Safari Dinner
This is a mix of great experiences all rolled into one. Welcome drinks are served on the platform before departure, canapés and champagne are served on your journey while you snap pictures of the passing wildlife, and the trip ends in a safari style gourmet dinner at the Zambezi National Park, complete with entertainment around a bonfire.
The Sunset Bridge Run
The Sunset Bridge Run takes guests to the best views of one of the greatest of the Seven Wonders of the World – the middle of the Victoria Falls Bridge, where champagne is sipped and cameras click as the sun slips quietly behind the roar of the great falls.
The Moonlight Dinner Run
This experience includes drinks and canapés on the Victoria Falls Bridge at sunset, and continues on to the Zambezi National Park, for a delicious gourmet dinner served under the stars of the African night sky, or in one of the train’s vintage dining carriages.
Zambezi Lager Party Express
This is a trip for large groups of celebrators, where you will party to the centre of the bridge at sunset in an old converted baggage van. All drinks are included in the ticket price and are available from the carriage’s party bar.
Even those who have travelled the world over will agree that there are few ways as incredible as this to enjoy your evening sundowners.
