Who We Are

The Palm Hospitality Group (PHG) Foundation is a local initiative made up of passionate employees of the Ilala Lodge Hotel and Palm River Hotel, who work together to bring about meaningful and practical support for our local community of Victoria Falls. The Palm Hospitality Foundation was formed in 2022 and brings together the efforts of both hotels to form a dynamic, like-minded committee dedicated to preserving our wonderful town of Victoria Falls.

What We Do

The PHG Foundation aids our local community by promoting responsible tourism projects such as environmental preservation, recycling, wildlife protection, local fundraisers and various other initiatives that support the community and preserve the rich cultural heritage of Victoria Falls town.

Inspired by this quote, we endeavour to support, contribute and care for our staff, environment and community as best we can, wherever we can, whenever we can.

Wildlife Conservation

The PHG Foundation supports the Victoria Falls Anti-Poaching Unit (VFAPU) – a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of local wildlife and natural resources in Victoria Falls. Our monthly donations play a crucial part in local wildlife protection and rehabilitation.

Humanitarian Support

The PHG Foundation works with several community projects, non-government organizations, schools and hospitals to provide support and much-needed care within the local community.

Environmental Preservation

Every first Friday of the month, our committee takes to streets, carparks and public areas as part of a community clean up. Our teams have also installed over 20 ‘baboon-proof’ waste bins throughout the rainforest to help maintain and preserve the surrounding tourist attractions.

Sustainable Waste Management Initiative

Among many achievements, the PHG Foundation proudly introduced a sustainable waste management initiative, presented to the Greenline Africa Trust and the Victoria Falls Recycling Project. The initiative includes various events and projects that endeavour to better the future of green development and sustainable tourism in Victoria Falls.

Internally, our policies include:

A Waste Management policy to reduce waste first, separating it into Glass, Plastic, Paper and Aluminium for various recycling purposes
Glass water bottles for drinking water offered at The Cassia Restaurant and Bar to reduce our plastic waste
Guests are also asked to indicate whether their linen in the room requires changing, thus reducing water usage in the laundry
Grey water used in composting and gardens

In the wider environment of Victoria Falls, our green policies include:

Being an active member of the Victoria Falls Recycling Project and participant in monthly National Clean Up Days
Greenline Africa: Ilala Lodge guests have the option to contribute any amount at the end of their stay. This is used for a variety of projects including Water for Elephants, Sponsor a Gogo/Child, The Ele-Bee Fence, Smallholder horticulture programme alongside Agritex and many more
Active participant in the clearing of the noxious weed, Lantana Camara from around the Zambezi River area

If you would like to support the PHG Foundation, we kindly request a voluntary contribution of as little as $5.00 – that can be added to your bill upon check out. All donations go directly towards the PHG Foundation fund to continue giving back to the Victoria Falls community and the conservation of our local wildlife!
