The Route: Where Scenery Meets Adventure
We think you’ll find this marathon route to be varied, lined with supporters and as spectacular as the Falls themselves!
Starting and finishing at Baobab Primary School in Victoria Falls town (only 1,4 km from Ilala Lodge Hotel), runners will cross the legendary Victoria Falls Bridge – turning around before they reach Zambia – and double back to experience the view from the other direction as well.
The run then follows Zambezi Drive, winding through pristine wildlife areas where you might spot elephants, impalas and curious warthogs wondering what on Earth is going on in their backyard… Not to worry, rangers patrol these portions of the route to ensure the safety of all participants.
Additionally, there will, of course, be regular water stations along the way, while enthusiastic locals and race supporters line the streets to cheer you on. When the legs are weary, these cheers are endlessly uplifting.
While this is a race, we think it’s worth mentioning that it’s an experience, too. Enjoy the journey and spare some time on the clock for the many spectacular viewpoints.
Number One in Our Hearts
The Palm Hospitality Group never misses a chance to showcase our talent, and we’ll once again be entering a team of enthusiastic and competitive runners. Whether you’re looking to smash a personal best or simply soak in the views, you’ll be in great company!
The Adventure Capital Of Africa
Your adventure doesn’t have to end the second you cross the finish line. Victoria Falls is known as the ‘Adventure Capital of Africa’, with plenty of exciting activities to complement your race weekend. (Or week!)
Here are some suggestions to add to your itinerary:
- Ra-Ikane Zambezi River Cruises: Visit our sister property, Palm River Hotel, a few kilometres upstream of the Falls, and indulge in a leisurely cruise on the Zambezi River.
- Helicopter Flights over the Falls: This is a popular tourist activity for a reason. Get a bird’s-eye view of the ‘Smoke That Thunders.’
- Safari Excursions: Explore Hwange National Park or cross the nearby border to visit Botswana’s Chobe National Park.
- Adrenaline Activities: Whether it’s whitewater rafting, bungee jumping or swinging across the gorge, Victoria Falls delivers!
You are more than welcome to approach our front desk team with any questions or queries. They would be delighted to organise an activity on your behalf, including transfers.
