With over 20 years of working with and more recently for Ilala Lodge Hotel, Jacquie is our in-house travel specialist who is here to provide you with all the help and attention you need in booking your accommodation, and vacation to Victoria Falls.
Here’s what Jackie recommends you do when you stay in Victoria Falls for two nights:
Day One
As most international guests normally arrive mid-day in Victoria Falls on the first day, and then leave 10 am on day three so you have one and a half days to make the most of! After checking into Ilala Lodge Hotel in the early afternoon, I recommend that you enjoy an afternoon siesta and early sundowners by our wonderful pool area – I know most people have usually travelled a long way to get to Victoria Falls and you need a few hours to catch your breath. I highly recommend that you have your first dinner at our in-house The Palm Restaurant. It makes for a truly memorable evening to enjoy fine dining under the star-studded African sky with the roar of the Victoria Falls in the background. Not only is the food delicious, but you don’t need to travel anywhere and can easily head off to your bed whenever you want!
Day Two
First things first, I recommend aย morning guided tour of the magnificent Victoria Falls โ the earlier the better to my mind! You can either make own way, or Ilala Lodge Hotel can arrange a guided tour which includes collection from the hotel. In all cases, the entrance fee is excluded and is payable directly to parks. Please should bear in mind that the U$ 30 payment is per entry and not per day so I suggest planning more rather than less time to do the Victoria Falls viewing.
After visiting the falls, I think that popping into the Look Out for a drink and a snack is a must! The view at any time of the year is second to none!
In the afternoon you will have enough time to go on a helicopter flight over the Victoria Falls as well the Ra-Ikane sunset cruise. The helicopter flight is truly wonderful – it is not frightening at all, and you glide smoothly in the air close to the spray and really get a feel for the formation of the waterfall, as well as the zig-zagging gorge. The Ra-Ikane is an intimate luxurious period boat that is run by Ilala Lodge Hotel themselves. Treat yourself to a few hours cruising along the Zambezi River, enjoying the complimentary bar and snacks and watching the wonderful wildlife on the banks, and in the waters, of the river.
If you would like to try somewhere different to eat on your second (last night) I recommend Dusty Road Township Experience. The decor is eccentrically African and the food is based on what the local Zimbabwean eat…with an added flair of creativity. A truly unique dinner.
Day Three
Hae a leisurely start, take full advantage of our wonderful breakfast buffet and then catch your transfer to the airport at 1030/1100 depending on your flight!
